The project is being executed in a cooperative framework and
is a collaborative venture involving four institutions. These
institutions are: Indian Institutes of Technology at Roorkee and
Chennai, National Productivity Council, and the International
Management Institute at New Delhi.
IMI has the responsibility for the following terms
of reference:

Developing strategies of change management
for transformation from industrial age to information age.

Anticipating trends and identifying issues
for formulating policy initiatives.

Preparing policy recommendations for efficient,
smooth and speedy transformation.

Promoting the use of Knowledge Management
as a tool for securing larger good of the society.
IMI will take up a large number of research
studies and organize workshops, MDPs, short courses, etc. in Knowledge-,
Technology-, R&D-, and Innovation Management. IMI will discharge
its responsibilities through its Centre for Management of Innovation
and Technology (CMIT).
NPC, as the national custodian of productivity
issues, is largely focusing on enhancing productivity and competitiveness
of the Indian economy. It is responsible for the following terms
of reference:
• Creating a network of Knowledge Institutions. (International
Network)
IIT-Madras and IIT-Roorkee, as top level academic institutions
in education and research, are focusing primarily on various dimensions
of realizing a knowledge economy.
IIT-R will look after the following terms of reference:

Mapping the directions of transition from
industrial economy to knowledge economy.

Generating deeper understanding, among key
stakeholders, of the scope and significance of Knowledge, Technology,
R&D and Innovation management for the emerging knowledge
economy. (Organizing seminars, workshops, etc. in the northern
and western regions.)

Creating a network of Knowledge Institutions.
(National Network along with IIT-M.)
IIT-M is focusing on the following terms of reference:

Identifying new knowledge streams/disciplines
likely to emerge in the evolving knowledge economy and suggesting
specialized courses to help meet manpower requirements of the
knowledge economy.

Generating deeper understanding, among key
stakeholders, of the scope and significance of Knowledge, Technology,
R&D and Innovation management for the emerging knowledge
economy, and developing model course-curricula for adoption
by other knowledge institutions. (Organizing seminars, workshops,
etc. in the eastern and southern regions.)

Creating a network of Knowledge Institutions.
(National Network along with IIT-R)
The participating institutions are actively involving other ministries
of the Government of India, international organizations such as
Asian Productivity Organization, Non-Governmental Organizations,
private sector players, industry associations, trade bodies and
other relevant academic institutions.
